This is a type of fiberboard, which is an engineered wood product. hardboard is manufactured using heat and pressure. It differs from particle board in that the bonding of the wood fibers requires no additional materials, although resin is often added. Unlike particle board, it will not split or crack.
hardboard is produced in either a wet or dry process. The wet process leaves only one smooth side while the dry processed hardboard is smooth on both sides. Most hardboards are produced in a wet process.
The types of hardboard:
*Standard hardboard is used for wall linings, door skins, cabinet backs, drawer bases, and other interior purposes.
*Exterior hardboard is treated to make it resistant to moisture and weathering, so it can be used for cladding and other outside applications.
*Underlay hardboard is treated to improve its moisture resistance, and is used under floor coverings.
